Completed in 2022, the 3-year, $150 million renovation of the historic Alexander G. Ruthven Museum transformed the building into a modern workspace for the University of Michigan’s Executive Administration team.
First constructed in 1928, designed by Albert Kahn, the revitalization project preserved its most notable historic features, like the ornate exterior envelope and signature rotunda with an elaborately carved plaster dome ceiling, while incorporating many modern design features to breathe new life and function into the space.
One such modern design element encases the stairways in a combination of smoked acrylic panels and polished stainless steel flat bar railing. This distinctive Future Fabricating creation makes a strong statement that the beauty of sleek modern architecture can fit naturally in any space, even one rooted in such great historic character.
